Jefferson County School District: Madras High School, Performing Arts Center

The 34,000sf, 600-seat auditorium was the newest performing arts center (PAC) in the state upon its completion. The building provides drama and music students with a modern and acoustically designed facility for plays and concerts. The new lighting and sound system provides the students in the drama program opportunities to learn all aspects of production. The PAC is also open to groups in the community and in the state so their performances can be seen and heard in a facility that will showcase their talents.

Scope: NWESI commissioning involvement started in the design phase. Commissioned systems included

    • All HVAC equipment, components, and controls
    • Domestic hot water
    • Lighting controls.

The HVAC system featured two large custom air handlers with hydronic heating and DX cooling and one heat recovery unit with downstream hydronic heating coils. The boiler system featured one condensing and one non-condensing boiler in parallel setup to modulate capacity through all four seasons of weather east of the Cascades.
