John joined NWESI in late 2007 as a commissioning agent shortly after completing his degree and working eight years with his family’s residential construction business. Providing a QA/QC role for MEP systems in the commercial construction industry was a natural fit with his background. Since 2015 John has led NWESI’s Building Envelope Testing (BET) service along with Bruce Gilpin. Using his BET and Cx experience, Building Envelope Commissioning (BECx) has become one of his highlighted specialties. Since 2018, John has put a focus on fire life safety (FLS) projects, particularly in regards to smoke evacuation systems and fire smoke damper testing.
John regularly shares his industry experience doing presentations in the Pacific Northwest for professional societies and regional conferences, sharing success, best practices, and lessons learned from failures. When at home, he tries to raise but mostly wrangle his 2.5 year old daughter and 1 year old son with his wife as well keep up with their dog, cat, bunny, snake, and recently purchased home which is undergoing a major remodel since purchase in September 2020.
John was recently honored as one of BCxA’s 20 under 40 for building commissioning.
