Challenge: Modernize this existing school's HVAC and control systems to provide better indoor air quality and reduced energy usage. This school is served by a series of new roof-top package air handlers with electric zone reheat and a refurbished multi-zone airhandler that utilized electric heat for the hot deck as well as electric zone reheat. The Functional Acceptance Testing (FATs) performed by NWESI found significant control, start-up, and TAB issues.

Solution: We documented the issues and worked with the installing contractors to successfully resolve the deficiencies and complete the FAT testing required. We were closely involved throughout the sustained effort and considered our work finished only when the deficiencies were properly resolved and the systems were operating as designed.

Result: At the conclusion of our efforts all HVAC systems were operating as intended, the faculty and students are benefiting from the improved indoor environment and the school district is realizing the benefits of the energy improvements.
