Challenge: A 500,000 square-foot expansion nearly doubles the size of the existing convention center. New space includes large exhibit halls, ballrooms, meeting rooms, office space and support areas, including a two-level parking garage. All systems must be tested, adjusted, balanced and certified as complete. The new systems must integrate with the existing central plant and surrounding HVAC systems.

Solution: Develop and execute detailed testing procedures to ensure the superior performance of all air and hydronic systems; perform extensive testing on elaborate smoke ventilation system; and capacity tests of the Center's existing chilled water and heating water plants. The NWESI team worked extensively with the design, installation, and operation teams to resolve issues found during the course of the project.

Result: The project was completed on time allowing OCC to meet critical occupancy requirements and exceeding the owner's expectations for opening-day performance. This collaborative effort has resulted in NWESI working with this owner on additional projects.
